PETA kills close to 85% of animals in its care in 2007

Where to begin… it’s a bit tough but I guess I’ll start with the fact that I am anti PETA. Please understand, I have no problem with people who care about animal welfare, however PETA is a brainwashing, propaganda spreading machine that only cares about making a splash and getting recognition. Most of their actions don’t represent the fact that they are indeed looking out for the best interests of animals, let alone the human species that they apparently belong to. Anti PETA all the way!!!! Anyway, I guess I’ll begin with this interesting news bit.

PETA and Euthanasia

According to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, their 2007 ‘Animal Record’ report apparently shows that PETA killed off more than 17,000 animals since 1998,which is over 80% of animals taken into their care. Now, according to Charity Navigator (a non-profit organization dedicated to helping in evaluation of American Charities), PETA had a total revenue slightly over 30 million dollars.

Now, you would think with that type of money, PETA could actually do right by these animals…. that is if they wanted to. PETA is actually quite a strong proponent of euthanasia. In defense of its policy PETA insists that euthanasia is the only humane way to approach the over population of animals and that it is a necessary evil in a world full of unwanted pets. Ironically, this is the same group against the use of animal research… somehow, this doesn’t qualify as a necessary evil, but I am getting topic.

How is it that the average euthanasia rate for humane societies in the state was around 35 percent in 2007 yet PETA was close to 84 percent? Seems to be a bit of a discrepancy here… all these other charities were able to find homes for the animals in their shelters. If you are a pet/animal lover, you should be incensed at the overwhelming proportion of PETA’s hypocrisy!!!
