Chew On This

I have no problem with people who choose a vegeterian/vegan lifestyle. I also think it’s great if you want to promote the health benefits of such a way of life. However, I am getting sick and tired of these fanatics who feel the urge to attack those who do eat meat/fish due to the thought that they are morally superior.

These people continuously attack ‘meat eaters’ for the exploitation of animals, and yet every single luxury in life that most of these fanatical animal rights activists enjoy comes at the expense of animal lives and habitat. To me this is a true exercise in ignorance and hypocrisy.

While these people are busy pointing their fingers, the Sumatran orangutan, Sumatran tiger, Sumatran rhinoceros and Asian Elephant are becoming extinct due to deforestation in Indonesia.

The majority of the deforestation is due to illegal logging. Global demand for wood products exceeding the supply available is the motive and America, Europe and Are are the major recipients.

Palm oil plantations is another driver of deforestation. It is believed to be the most widely produced edible oil, surpassing even soybean oil. It is a component in many soaps, personal care products and many processed foods. Conversion of woodlands in Indonese and Malaysia into oil palm plantations is a major cause of permanent rainforest loss.

Finally, the third key reason for forests being cleared is to make way for industrial timber plantations that support the pulp and paper industries.

This was just one classic example. There is an abundunt amount of cases where support of products used in daily life is leading to theĀ  endangerment and extinction of numerous species. The next time you feel the urge to jeer a non vegetarian for the exploitation of animals, realize that there is likely no difference between you and them.

  1. Unfortunately, organizations such as PETA, ALF, and others really give most vegetarians (including myself) a negative image.
